At least six people were killed as a result of an apparent liquefied nitrogen leak at the Foundation Food Group poultry facility in Gainesville, Georgia, on Thursday.

Vice president of human resources at the Foundation Food Group Nicholas Ancrum stated that the incident occurred at the facility in the morning. “Preliminary indications are that a nitrogen line ruptured inside the facility,” he stated.

He stated that six employees died in the explosion while “others were transported to the hospital, with very serious injuries,” including emergency service members. A further 130 employees were evacuated to a safe location.

Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch said investigations were underway to identify the victims, as well as determine the reason behind the explosion.
